 When
the going gets tough, the tough get going - and there is no tougher going
than when you're faced with losing all of your data due to a hard disk
problem (of course you will have been religiously using your Prosoft
Data Backup system to minimise the risk of this!) and there is no
tougher ally than Prosoft's Data Rescue.
Data Rescue has won many awards and is widely acknowledged as the best
data recovery utility on the market for recovering files from a faulty
hard disk.
Unlike many other utilities, Data Rescue doesn't attempt to fix a problem
with your hard disk, it has only one objective - recovering your files,
which has to be recovered to a second hard disk or removable media volume.
Features
Can recover files from hard disks that fail to mount
Works after other utilities have failed
Does not make changes to the original hard disk, which increases the chance
of data recovery
Icons, creation/modification dates and folder hierarchy recovered
Issues
Duration depends on disk condition and the amount of data
Initialising a volume may prevent data recovery
Recently deleted files in Mac OS X cannot be recovered*
Incompatible with UFS formatted volumes
Useful downloads (in Acrobat PDF format)

*In OS X, Data Rescue will NOT be able to find your recently erased files.
OS X is much better about eliminating unwanted files and the space they
were once occupying becomes the home to other data right away.
In Classic Mac OS, this is not the case. Frequently, you will be able
to recover deleted files as long as the operating system has not reused
their directory and catalog information yet. You have the best chance
of recovering your deleted files if you do a Data Rescue Volume Scan immediately
after realizing that you deleted files you actually want.
